We plan to create this community through shared experiences that will empower women with the skills needed to thrive in academia and educating department chairs about ways to effectively create a welcome, supportive and productive environment.--> Our goal is to increase the retention of women in the academic pipeline and to create women geoscientist leaders by building a supportive community for women geoscientists. We hope to accomplish this by holding an annual writing retreat for women academic geoscientists spanning careers from near-PhD completion to emerita professors.

When: Writing retreats are held during the last week of July. They begin with an icebreaker on Sunday evening and end at noon on Friday. The schedule is open with only two formal events, both optional. Tuesday morning a writing coach provides general advice about writing, followed by individual writing assistance in the afternoon. Wednesday evening there is a presentation relevant to getting and maintain a position in the academy.
